i carry your heart with me

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)

i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

cummings takes me to one of my happy places, and this particular poem is so very dear to my heart. At this time in my life, more than ever. What a sweet gift it is to be trusted with the heart of the one you love. May the time till your reunion pass swiftly...

One of my favorite cummings poems and what a gorgeous photo to illustrate it with.

Should I be having an insecurity complex that I am only marginally familiar with this poem? It cettainly is beautiful, though!

Or how about because I had a typo in my last comment?

Missing your sweetheart, are you? I don't blame you. We had such a lovely dinner with him last night and he is one of the best and greatest men I've ever known. I can imagine the void in your house, and in your heart, when he is away. Thank you for sharing him with us!

What a beautiful poem. I wish I was better at writing poetry than I am. My goal is to have prose that sounds like poetry though.

That picture is awesome!

It's the combination of the words and the photograph that makes us all swoon here! Wow.
Don't mind me -- I'm just reveling.
