The Choirs Kept Singing: The Best of 2017

Here are some of the high points of the past year, in no particular order:

A book published; a scholarship won; two stories published in anthologies; a residency in Bath; a glorious day in Oxford; an idyllic house exchange in the Loire Valley; Patrick's inspiring stake conference addresses; Hope's acceptance to UC Berkeley; James's faithful mission completion; the kids singing along to Yves Montand; a critical thesis; a creative thesis; date nights galore; sous vide everything; discovering the finest tapestries ever woven; Hope's game-winning buzzer beater; Christian's heroic efforts on two campaign trails; the best book group ever; Tess's PHS all-time fourth place swim ranking; getting our Swiss passports; endless Great Dalmuti matches; Daniel's 3D element Christmas ornaments; Anne's voracious, omnivorous reading; a Hollywood movie opening with Patrick; the biggest and best Thanksgiving of all time; singing carols around the piano; Tess's two ethereal Christmas duets; having award-winning writers as mentors; and steak and symphony with my beloved.

You are absolutely AMAZING! I don't know how you have time to breathe! I'm thrilled that you and family are flourishing -- methinks the sunny California environment is good for you!!!!! My life is still filled with work & commute (which got worse when the building moved deeper into NJ 1 1/2 yrs ago) -- but the work is still fascinating and challenging, the management more like the first sentence of Anna Karenina (....all corporations are dystfunctional in their own way!). Yoga is progressing and I can do a flying Chataronga on one side & am working on the other. Rich retired and is figuring out who he wants to be when he grows up + doing lots of volunteer work & more of the errands which is good given the aforementioned commute. My Mom and I had a wonderful trip to Spain in March (she's 86 and still pushing herself) and my Dad retired in Feb just shy of his 88th birthday. He's reading lots now and loved "Endurance" about Shakelton's Antarctic adventure which I recommended after reading it for my work bookclub -- we went rogue this past year under my guidance as the list of books we were supposed to read contained too many "lean-in" type books and the repetition of theme was too much! My home bookclub which we discussed when it was forming years ago is still going strong. Hope you have had a wonderful holiday season and best wishes for the coming year! Hey, can you send me your address? I like to send holiday cards and am thinking ahead!!!! Love Deb
